The issue is not how many people there are who are naturally and safely thin enough to be fashion models today. The BMI standard is arbitrary and that arbitrariness is problematic.

I find the extension of this idea much more interesting: why gay men who want to design fashion are inextricably linked to designing for women, for better or worse.
